A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
Build a rock song block by block, no music theory required
Ever wanted to write a song but never learned an instrument? Here you compose real rock music by picking ready-made blocks for each instrument, and you hear everything change as you go.
This is an early prototype. Right now it's just the songwriting part of a bigger idea: a band management game where the songs you write are the heart of your career. Before building the rest, I want to find out one thing: is making music this way fun?
What you can do
- Build your song part by part: intro, verse, chorus, bridge, solo… Repeat parts, link them, reorder them.
- Choose what the drums, bass and guitar play in each bar. Every option has a ▶ button so you can hear it playing inside your song before you pick.
- Change the chords with plain words like home, rising, tension and sad. No music theory needed.
- Set the feel (upbeat or melancholic), the speed and the pitch, and hear the whole song adapt.
- Save your songs and export them as audio files to share with friends.
- Stuck? Load the demo song and start tweaking.
Controls
- Click a square to choose what plays there
- Space: play / stop
- Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y: undo / redo
- Mouse wheel over a block: switch versions · over a chord: change the chord
- Right-click a block: clear it
- Esc: close menus
Available in English and Portuguese (switch any time with the EN | PT button).
Where it's going
If the idea works, the full game adds a garage to grow in, bandmates to hire, songs to release, and shows to play, where your own songs are the setlist.
Feedback wanted!
This build exists to learn from you. After playing, please take a couple of minutes to fill out this short form. It helps a lot:
A note on the art: some illustrations in this prototype were made with AI. They're placeholders, there just to give the game a look while I test the idea. If the project moves forward, they'll be replaced by work from real artists.
